Plastic injection molder (medical devices)

Mold storage and retrieval
|
|

The customer was currently storing molds inan old pull out shelving system. The quantity of molds grew to a point that a lot of the molds would no longer fit in the shelves and were scattered all over the floor. This resulted in a lot of wasted time in just trying to locate the mold required for each changeover cycle. Also, once the mold was found it took two to three people to retrieve it. Back strains and other injuries were a result of this operation as well as reduced production on the injection mold machines.

There were too many molds and not enough floor space to utilize new pull out shelving. Vertical carousels could not be used because of the size and quantity of the molds with relation to the available floor and vertical space requirements.

One (1) 2,000 lb. Capacity Prostak system #P2B-300-120.5-26.530-16

The Prostak adjustable and removable steel pallets and small aisle allowed the customer to store 300 molds of varying size in less than 400 square feet. All the molds are now 100% visible and accessible for fast retrieval.
Prior to the Prostak installation it took 10 to 15 minutes to find a mold and two to three people to retrieve the mold. With the ergonomic and integrated stacker crane, the Prostak system requires only a single operator and has reduced the time to retrieve a mold by over 85%, down to 1 to 2 minutes. The opportunity for back strains and other injuries has also been eliminated.
The new Prostak user and mold technician stated “I’ve been doing this for 30 years and this is the best system I’ve ever seen.”
