Storage of fighter jet components.

Lack of organization with component storage led to reduced productivity of the employee. Time was wasted looking for various parts and then attempting to retrieve them. This created a bottleneck that negatively affected the entire production process.

VLM and vertical carousels were considered as well as standard static storage racking. The large size of tote bins used did not lend themselves to VLM or vertical carousel storage. Standard pallet rack would have improved the storage density of the area (utilizing the vertical space) but there was still the issue of accessing the rack and waiting for available lift trucks.

Two (2) fully motorized 1,000 Lb. capacity single aisle stacker systems #1B-333-346-10860-8 side by side with a model #VPA video pallet alignment system on both. Total space required: 2,625 square feet.

The two stacker crane systems addressed all issues the customer had. It neatly organized the component storage, made full use of the vertical space available ( 24’-0”) and provided an integral crane to prevent loss time due to waiting on availability of a forklift and operator thus creating a work cell environment. Access to all components was now quick and easy. The bottleneck was eliminated and process flow was improved.
